Vitalizing Red Superfoods

Red – the color of love. Red is the color of fire or blood as well. It is strongly linked to life. The color red also provides warmth and energy, passion and eroticism. Red superfoods have a very similar effect on our bodies.

The red superfoods contain lycopene. This dye belongs to the group of carotenoids, which can also be found in yellow and orange superfoods. Generally speaking, red superfoods slow down the skin and cell aging. Furthermore, it has a stimulating and vitalizing effect. Therefore it is good for our cardiovascular system.

Let’s have a look at different red superfoods, which we can easily implement in our daily meal.

Tomatoes

To demonstrate how powerful tomatoes can be – I would like to share a study with you. Nutrition Research published this study. The study had a look at twenty people. Ten participants ate 10 grams of olive oil and 55 grams of tomato paste daily in addition to their normal diet. The other 10 participants supplemented only olive oil. After 3 months the researchers took skin samples from all 20 participants and examined.

The participants who had eaten the cooked tomatoes in the form of tomato paste had 33% more protection against sunburn than those who had only received olive oil. They also showed higher levels of procollagen, a protein that plays an important role in maintaining skin structure.

Here it is Important to highlight that this effect is only observable for a midterm intake and not a short term. Secondly, the tomatoes were cooked. The cooking process greatly increases the bioavailability of lycopene in the tomatoes. That is why the researchers have used tomato paste.

Chili

Various studies are showing that the spice factor of chili has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving, immune strengthening, and appetite suppressing properties.

Further, chili can lower your cholesterol level. They influence the so-called “bad” cholesterol (LDL). LDL accumulates in the blood vessels and can lead to clogged arteries. This can lead to heart attack or stroke.

Moreover, chili is turning up the heat not only in recipes. Nothing edible is as reliably stimulating as chili. The spice ensures that the body releases opiates and stimulates the blood circulation of the mucous membranes vigorously.

Pomegranate

Two of the best-researched substances in pomegranate are its polyphenols in juice and, hormone-effective substances from the oil of pomegranate seeds. Especially for women, the hormone-effective substances are interesting. Often women, who are having their menopause or other hormonal disbalances are making use of it. Pomegranate can balance your hormonal balance. Moreover, the pomegranate-specific polyphenols can fight cancer. In studies, they have been effective against breast cancer, prostate cancer, and leukemia.

Watermelon

The watermelon is the best friend of everyone who would like to detox and lose weight. As the watermelon consists of out of 95% Water, it has an influence on our body’s water balance.

In this way, it contributes to the body’s ability to release pollutants more quickly. At the same time, it allows getting rid of a few unnecessary pounds.

Further,  watermelon can influence the blood pressure. Due to its amino acid citrulline, it can lower your blood pressure. Once in the body, it is converted into the amino acid arginine. In this form, it has a vasodilative effect.

Goji Berries

Goji berries are little red wonder fruits. They combine almost all vital nutrients in a unique combination. As a result, goji berries are a perfect red food. It is a superfood that can enrich any diet and optimize our health. In particular, they provide a lot of Vitamin A, Vitamin C,  and Vitamin E (which is rarely found in fruit). Additionally, it has a considerable vitamin B level. Another interesting fact is, that goji berries contain a lot of iron. This is between 6.8 and 9 mg per 100 g. 50 grams of dried goji berries can already make a considerable contribution to your iron requirement.
